Child Care for Low-Income Families

Publications: Child Care for Low-Income Families: Summary of Two Workshops (1995); Child Care for Low-Income Families: Directions for Research: Summary of a Workshop (1996)

At the request of the Administration for Children and Families of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Board on Children and Families (now the Board on Children, Youth, and Families) conducted a series of workshops on Child Care for Low-Income Families. Two workshops were held in late winter and early spring of 1995, and the third workshop was held in July 1995. The workshops were designed to bring researchers, practitioners, and policy makers together to review research on the developmental effects of child care for low-income families; examine the current child care delivery system; and discuss the next generation of research in this area and its implications for policy development. The workshops also updated the literature contained in the 1990 National Research Council report Who Cares for America's Children?

Two reports, Child Care for Low-Income Families: Summary of Two Workshops and Child Care for Low-Income Families: Directions for Research: Summary of a Workshop, were published in 1995 and 1996, respectively, and synthesize workshop discussions.
