Background

An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a public workshop to review and assess research on child abuse and neglect, identify gaps in the existing literature, and consider potential future research priorities. The committee will develop the workshop agenda, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. The workshop will be organized as Phase 1 for a possible Phase 2 future study that would identify ways in which the research base could inform policy and practice for child welfare and other family support services and also recommend research priorities for the next decade. The primary objective of Phase 1 is to provide an initial literature review of recent and emerging areas of research, as well as policy and programmatic needs, and an individually-authored workshop summary prepared by a designated rapporteur.
