Meeting #2: June 29-30, 2009
Workshop on the Impact of Mobility and Change on the Lives of Young Children, Schools, and Neighborhoods

Background

The Board on Children, Youth, and Families formed a program committee to organize a two-day workshop to review research on patterns of change and mobility in the lives of young children (ages 3 to 8 years) and to examine the implications of this work for the design of child care, early childhood and elementary educational programs, and community services for neighborhoods and vulnerable populations that experience high rates of mobility.

The ad hoc committee planned and conducted the workshop. It commissioned background papers and identified speakers and participants for workshop presentations. An individually authored summary of the workshop was prepared by a rapporteur.

The workshop report is now available: Student Mobility: Exploring the Impact of Frequent Moves on Achievement: Summary of a Workshop.
